Today we are very excited to announce that DreamHack Winter 2012 will feature a major 5on5 tournament in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The tournament will feature 16 of the very best Counter-Strike teams in the world where the attending teams will be a mix of invited teams and teams qualified through online and LAN qualifications. Of course teams at location will be able to qualify through an open BYOC-qualifier at DreamHack Winter 2012.

And yes. It will feature a large prize pool! DreamHack Winter 2012 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament will have 300 000 SEK up for grabs. The biggest cash prize purse ever offered in a Counter-Strike tournament at any DreamHack event.
“Counter-Strike has always been, and still is, one of the most popular games in the Nordic region and bringing a world tournament to the table at this early stage feels like a natural step for DreamHack” said Robert Ohlen, CEO of DreamHack. “eSports is moving forward and we believe that CS: Global Offensive will be a vital part of that progress”.

The final stage of the tournament will be featured in DreamHacks eSport Hall and the Grand Final will be played at DreamArena in front of an massive audience. All the best matches from the tournament will be live streamed in HD for free thanks to our partner Twitch TV.
“Our goal is to improve live production of Counter-Strike by an order of magnitude as the development of CS productions has been on a decline during the recent years” said Tomas Hermansson, Head of eSports. “We’ll bring in some of world’s best commentators and experts but also try to redefine live streaming in FPS-games especially with pre- and post-game analysis in a TV-studio between the tournament matches”.
