Stockholm, Sweden. DreamHack Winter 2014, the World’s biggest LAN party traditionally held at Elmia Fairs is proud to announce after years of planning, it is finally able to expand to the entire grassland area surrounding the Elmia fairs, and will be able to double the amount of BYOC seats available to attendees thanks to this additional space.
An idea originally presented in 2009 by CEO Robert Ohlén, the ambitious plan to expand to have gamers fill up the fields surrounding Elmia Fairs was originally shelved due to the inability for traditional gaming hardware to withstand the extreme conditions of sub-zero temperatures and massive snowfall that is the Swedish winter.
“We use every square inch of Elmia today, and in order to expand further we need more space. Taking it outdoor feels like a natural step since Elmia already hosts numerous events outside and DreamHack Winter is DreamHack Winter.” said Robert Ohlén, CEO of DreamHack. “Moving the LAN outdoors and using the Elmia Halls as sleeping halls will give us enormous growth potential.”
In conjunction with this, EIZO, one of DreamHack’s strategic partners, will launch a specific product for use outdoors, FORIS EX2602, the first weatherproof monitor for gaming, that is built to endure sub-zero temperatures and heavy snow rushes. Read more here.
DreamHack Winter 2014 will feature 20,000 BYOC seats in the outdoor area, and will look to continue to expand this initiative in the coming years. In the upcoming years DreamHack believes that the computer festivals can expand into 50,000 outdoor seats.
